ANNE ANDERSON
Her Excellency Ms ANNE ANDERSON who graduated from UCD with a BA in History and Politics, is the 17th Ambassador of Ireland to the United States. A career diplomat, she also served as our representative to the United Nations, the European Union, France and Monaco, the first woman to hold each of these positions. She joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1972, working here and in Washington before being appointed our Permanent Representative to the UN from 1995 to 2001. While in Geneva, the Clonmel native was named as chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights, the fourth woman to earn the honour. From 2001 to 2005, she was Permanent Representative to the European Union in Geneva, where her work on behalf of Ireland earned her the honour of being named “Diplomat of the Year” by the influential website, European Voice.
JOHN HORGAN
JONATHAN SEXTON
In recognition of his outstanding achievements both in provincial and national rugby, Jonathan Sexton has been chosen as the recipient of the 2014 UCD Foundation Day Medal, the youngest ever awardee. Jonathan made 110 appearances for Leinster between 2006 and 2013 scoring 1,015 points for the province. While at Leinster he won three European Cups, two Pro12 titles and a Challenge Cup. He joined Racing Metro 92 at the start of the 2013/14 season and currently plays for them in Paris. He is returning to Leinster for the 2015/2016 season.
Jonathan made his Ireland debut in the 41-6 victory over Fiji in November 2009. He went on to score all 15 of Ireland’s points in their victory over South Africa in their next match. Jonathan played in all five games of Ireland’s 2014 RBS 6 Nations Championship winning campaign. He toured with the victorious 2013 British & Irish Lions squad, starting in all three Tests against Australia.
DAVID MCNULTY
In recognition of his outstanding creative contribution within the architectural design industry, David McNulty is this year’s recipient of the Architecture award. David McNulty studied architecture in UCD, graduating in 1985. He moved to Paris shortly afterwards and he worked for the French office of Marcel Breuer then subsequently the offices of Christian de Portzamparc, Marc Held, Chaix et Morel before joining Louis Vuitton in 1997. Shortly after joining he established the Architecture Department to address the expansion needs of the company in the retail environment worldwide. The work of the department has been the subject of exhibitions in Tokyo, Berlin and New York. He participated in the Adolf Loos exhibition in 1985 in Dublin and in the Figurative Architecture in Paris in 1987.
David’s spectacular designs have created the retail environment for one of the most exclusive brands in the world.
CLODAGH BARRY
Clodagh Barry is the recipient of the Physiotherapy award in recognition of her continuous dedication to working with paediatric Spina Bifida in Ireland, the Lebanon and Pakistan.
Clodagh spent most of her career in Central Remedial Clinic (CRC). In 1983 she travelled to Lebanon and worked in a centre for children with disability and has maintained strong links with this group ever since. More recently she became involved in developing services in Pakistan and continues to go there on a regular basis. Throughout her career in the CRC Clodagh has demonstrated excellent commitment to the clinical education of UCD physiotherapy students. Her wealth of knowledge and remarkable treatment and handling skills were an inspiration.
Her commitment dedication and hard work have ensured that Clodagh will always be a role model in the paediatric physiotherapy world.
