lives in Ireland and retired this year. Favourite lecturers: Pierse Colbert and John Teeling. Memories of UCD: We were one of the first faculties to be based at Belfield. Rugby matches; concerts in the restaurant block; paper airplanes in the Economics lectures of Professor Patrick Lynch, who was a genius but oblivious to the antics of his students! Great memories!
lives in Ireland and after a 42-year career in local government is now a board chairperson. Memories of UCD: Moving to Belfield in 1969 after completing my first year as a night student in Earlsfort Terrace. lives in Ireland and is retired from the bank. Memories of UCD: My fondest memory is of the coffee in the student restaurant. There was a choice – black or white! The white coffee was made with hot milk and served in a green cup and saucer. With two spoons of sugar it was a cup of perfect nectar on a cold morning.

lives in the US and is Department Chair in Supportive Oncology at Atrium Health Levine Cancer. Professional highlight from the last year: Walther Foundation Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Memories of UCD: A class outing: our tutor, who felt we were medical philistines who needed some cultural exposure, hired a bus and took us on a tour of Georgian buildings. The photograph was, I think, taken on the steps of Castletown House. I am at the very back on the right!

Memories of UCD: I wrote poems while at UCD for my soulmate Kate McGarry, a 1972 alumna. I posted them to her but as a form of wooing they were unsuccessful. She strung me along for years but it was worth the wait.

MARTIN A. MAHER
BAgrSc 1974
lives in Ireland and is a retired bank branch manager. Favourite lecturer: Professor John Joe Moore SJ, our Botany and Science lecturer. I remember his very sympathetic treatment of the concept of evolution; a book written at the time by fellow Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, The Phenomenon of Man, was banned by the Church! Memories of UCD: In an age of exorbitant rents, it’s worth recalling how I shared a lovely house in Sandymount, D4 with my brother and sister, costing only £2 each a week!

KYRAN HANLEY
BA Politics 1979, MBA 1985
lives in Australia and is retired as a Corporate Planner. Memories of UCD. I have been in Australia since 1986 and last year while visiting Dublin I went for a nostalgic trip down memory lane through the corridors of UCD. I cherish my memories. Long cups of coffee in the restaurant with classmates after many hours studying in the library were an intricate part of the university experience.
