UNA BYRNE
BSc 1980, HDipEd 1981
lives in New Zealand and is Assessment Manager and Teacher of Mathematics at Pathway/TE Huarahi at the University of Otago in Dunedin. Memories of UCD: My very first day as a 17-year-old, walking by the lake through Belfield campus to the Science building and feeling that I belonged there. It was wonderful.

BA 1983
lives in Ireland and is a UN Advisor. Memories of UCD: The lake.
PATRICK KING
BA 1985
lives in Germany and is a Purser/Senior Flight Attendant with Lufthansa. Memories of UCD: A moment of surprise and trepidation when graduating student Pat Cusack asked me to run the Italian Society during my final year. But I rose to the challenge and made a success of it, culminating in organising an Easter Party in concert with the German Society.
DEIRDRE GARVEY
BSc Experimental Physics 1986
lives in Ireland and is CEO at The Wheel. Memories of UCD: Creating ‘seismic waves’ in the grassy area between the Science block and the lake by hitting a metal disc with a sledgehammer, to test the efficacy of the seismic-wave detector I built for my final year project, while fellow students looked on from the warmth of their building, laughing at my efforts
DENIS O’SULLIVAN
BE Chemical Engineering 1986
lives in Belgium and is Chief Technology Officer at Consultant Immaterial Ltd. Memories of UCD: My most vivid memory is of something that would never be allowed today – a stretcher race as part of Engineering rag-week. A race between ten pubs around the centre of Dublin; in each pub you got a clue to the next one. Teams of five – four carriers who had to drink half a pint in each pub, and one on the stretcher who had to drink a pint in each pub. I think our team finished in less than two hours and we didn’t make the top three.
