Memories of UCD: Walking into Earlsfort Terrace late for my first lecture and being stunned at all the males in attendance (I didn’t notice the other eight females). I went to all-girls primary and secondary schools and nobody told me engineering was (at that time) a largely male profession.

Memories of UCD: I enjoyed every moment at UCD, in the Department of Biochemistry, under the supervision of Professor Harrington. I played basketball, tennis and volleyball with my department colleagues and was a member of the International Society. We organised a lovely international night on the campus.

In the 1980s, the Library closed at 10pm and on Saturdays at 1pm. Now it seems to open 24/7. The Law Library and Miss Semple, the boss, a sweet, dedicated librarian who resembled Miss Marple and found everything for us.
(BSc 1989) lives in Ireland and is the founder and director of Cloudware Ltd t/a Aladdin Schools. This year the company launched Aladdin Connect, a mobile phone app companion to the Aladdin MIS, which keeps parents appraised of their child’s progress in primary school.
Memories of UCD: Founding SciDay, demonstrating for a year after graduation in the Computer Science Department and lifelong friendships.
