Restrictions and social distancing measures meant that the 2020 graduating classes of the Schools of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems had an unprecedented virtual send-off. We want to take a moment to celebrate their achievements, thank them for their vibrant and passionate contributions to the UCD community, and wish them all the best in their next adventure, wherever that may take them. As UCD President, Professor Andrew J Deeks, said: “The bonds of solidarity within the UCD community are tighter than ever as we support each other through these difficult times. I look forward to welcoming you all back on campus to celebrate your achievements as soon as it is safe to do so. But until then, I wish you well as you embark on your careers. Take care of yourselves and your families, and take heart in the hope that we will come together again at the end of this journey, stronger and more united than ever.”
His Excellency President Michael D Higgins addressed graduates from the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, paying tribute to nurses and midwives and their changing role in Ireland and beyond. He said: “You can be very proud of the profession you have joined, one which has played a critical role in the implementation of patient-centred care and the delivery of primary care services.”
