Charlie Ryan of UCD captained the Irish Rugby U20s team to Grand Slam victory against Wales in the final game over the St Patrick’s Day weekend. UCD students, David Ryan, Scott Penny, who has already been capped for the senior Leinster team, and Michael Milne, were all part of the squad.
Numerous players received representative caps at provincial and national levels. Adam Byrne, Ross Byrne, Dan Leavy, Luke McGrath, Andrew Porter, Garry Ringrose, James Ryan, James Tracy
and Josh van der Flier were all capped for Ireland in the last year.
UCD RFC’s annual Daffodil Day event on 7 March, in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, had great support from UCD rugby players, including Sarah Glynn, UCD Women’s Rugby captain, and Leinster and Ireland players. The involvement of students and members for the last four years has helped raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society, with this year’s collection alone raising more than €11,000.
