A WINNING MENTALITY

Hockey

Ireland finished their EuroHockey Championship campaign in Amsterdam with a flourish as UCD graduate Anna Flanagan’s double underpinned a strong 3-0 victory over Italy. However, it left the Green Army with two wins, a draw and two defeats from the competition with the key targets of a first-ever semi-final sport and a World Cup qualification proving elusive due to “goals scored” in the group stages.

In a year where sport was thrown into turmoil, the Irish Senior Cup final originally set for the end of March 2020 was finally played in September 2020, with UCD 3-1 winners for the third time in four years against Belfast rivals, Pegasus.

UCD Ladies Hockey was delighted to announce former Irish International and current Senior Women’s team manager Lisa Jacob as the new Head Coach for their First team. A former UCD Sports Scholar, with a degree in Psychology, the Wexford native is familiar with her new surroundings having captained the UCD Ladies team to the Irish Senior Cup title in 2009. Jacob also received the Dr Tony O’Neill Sportsperson of the Year in 2009.
