On my return to UCD in 2008 to take an MA in History I was elected auditor of the History Society, thereby becoming the only person to have occupied these two contrasting roles.

The Law Library and Miss Semple, the boss, a sweet, dedicated librarian who resembled Miss Marple and found everything for us.

She joined the zoology department in January and we were married in August. We were together for 43 years until she sadly passed away in 2018.

He was recently awarded the Governor General of Canada Sovereign Medal for Volunteers, which recognises those who have made a significant, sustained, unpaid contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad. Memories of UCD: Playing double-bass in the 1969 UCD orchestra performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #3 at Newman House. A memorable experience.

He received the Apollo Individual Achievement Award from Neil Armstrong in 1969 for his work with NASA. His book, Return to the Moon After Apollo coincides with this year’s 50th anniversary of Apollo 11.

John (Ivan) Woods

(MB BCh BAO 1961) lives in Canada where he is Professor of Neurology at the Neurological Institute at McGill University.

With the help of Jet Propulsion Lab in California, he developed a trasmitter and receiver from astronauts’ helmets and adapted this for use in a hospital, now in routine use in neurology departments. Memories of UCD: In 1961, I won a gold medal for medicine and had the highest mark in the BCh exam.
