UCD Alumni Awards celebrate excellence and achievement within the UCD network
Within the UCD alumni community, there are people making a difference at all levels across business, industry, society and culture in Ireland and around the world.
In November 2022, UCD Acting President Professor Mark Rogers hosted the ninth UCD Alumni Awards, the first in-person awards ceremony since 2019. The Awards are one of the most important nights in the UCD calendar, when we celebrate the accomplishments of our most notable alumni, who reflect the breadth and depth of our academic programmes and university values. The awardees are nominated by peers and faculty from across all UCD’s disciplines and exemplify ambition, application and achievement. UCD Alumni Awardees excel in a range of fields from Arts to Health, Business to Agriculture, Sport to Engineering, and from Social Sciences to Law.
The nine distinguished alumni recognised with awards at the gala dinner in UCD’s O’Reilly Hall in 2022 were: Consolata Boyle, Irish costume designer (Arts and Humanities); Mary Quaney, Group CEO, Mainstream Renewable Power (Business); Michael Burke, founder and Executive Chairman of Chanelle Pharma (Health and Agricultural Science); Bill Shipsey, human rights activist, artist event promoter, producer; (Law); Ciarán Connell and Michael McLaughlin, co-founders of DecaWave (Engineering and Architecture); Dr Martin J. Tobin, Professor of Medicine at Loyola University (Research, Innovation and Impact); Conrad Burke, physicist and entrepreneur (Science); Niall Breslin, writer, podcast host, philanthropist, musician, athlete (Social Sciences); and Eimear Lambe, rower and Olympic medallist (Sport).
It was an honour to be able to welcome back a number of awardees from 2020 and 2021 whose celebrations took place virtually during the pandemic.
