Shane de Blacam has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Royal Academy of Arts Architecture Prize at a ceremony in London. The jury’s citation noted de Blacam’s dedication to communitycentric spaces and the craft of his buildings. De Blacam is a Fulbright scholar who studied under Louis Kahn at the University of Pennsylvania and went on to found leading Irish architecture practice De Blacam and Meagher with his teaching colleague in the UCD School of Architecture, the late John Meagher.

Architect John Tuomey has published a memoir, First Quarter, with Lilliput Press. O’Donnell & Tuomey, the practice Tuomey founded with his wife, Sheila O’Donnell, is known for social and cultural spaces such as the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, the Glucksman Gallery in UCC and the Victoria & Albert East Museum in London. Tuomey studied at UCD when the School of Architecture was located in Earlsfort Terrace, and is now Emeritus Full Professor at UCD.

Róisín Heneghan has been elected to membership of Aosdána. After a masters degree at Harvard, she co-founded Heneghan Peng in New York and subsequently relocated the practice to Dublin. Completed projects include the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Giant’s Causeway Visitors’ Centre, and the refurbishment of the National Gallery of Ireland Historic Wings. Current projects include the Old Library redevelopment at Trinity College Dublin, Storm King Art Centre and a visitors’ centre at the Botanic Gardens Berlin.
