Having met at UCD, Riordan Fernandez and Cooney together founded Sequoia Design. In May 2020, they showcased their talents and teamwork as contestants on Netflix reality series The Big Flower Fight. Riordan Fernandez trained at UNESCO World Heritage site La Alhambra in Granada, Spain. Cooney has a diploma in project management.

This year, Farrell and McNamara, principals of international architecture practice, Grafton Architects, received the Pritzker Prize, the highest honour in the architectural profession. Grafton Architects were also awarded the Royal Gold Medal, the Royal Institute of British Architects’ highest honour, the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Gandon Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Architecture in 2020, and the RIAI Gold Medal for Bocconi University in Milan in 2019. A project for UTEC in Lima received the inaugural RIBA International Prize in 2016. In 2008 the project for Bocconi University was awarded the inaugural World Building of the Year award at the World Architecture Festival.
