Standing for the environment, equality and progressive politics, McHugh ran for election because she was worried about lack of action on climate change. She came to prominence in a televised debate on RTÉ, prior to the election. Her performance was credited with adding to the “Green Wave” in Irish politics this year.

Prior to her appointment to the Veterinary Council, Muldoon had been head of corporate governance and secretary to the Medical Council of Ireland, which regulates doctors in Ireland. Before that, she was a partner in legal practice, Holohan Solicitors.
In 2018, Dr John Ryan won the prestigious Liebig Award, which recognises outstanding contributions in applied soil science research. In March 2019, Emma Walsh, COO of Food Cloud, gave a presentation on the “Future of Food Redistribution” at the European Commission in Brussels, which highlighted delegated distribution and digital transformation for food redistribution. In 2018, Amii McKeever became president of the Agricultural Science Association, the professional body for graduates in agricultural, horticultural, forestry, environmental and food science. This year, she left Glanbia to edit Irish Country Living, the weekly magazine of the Irish Farmers Journal.
