USA

UCD President, Professor Orla Feely was delighted to connect with UCD alumni across North America in November 2023 and April 2024. Over 200 alumni and supporters attended across five locations – Palo Alto, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago and New York. Alumni welcomed the opportunity to reconnect with their local UCD community and to hear about Professor Feely’s vision for Ireland’s Global University.

Palo Alto and San Francisco

UCD alumni gathered in Palo Alto at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley. Brenda Tierney, and Orla MacLean, granddaughters of Dr Michael Tierney – UCD President 1947-1964 – were in attendance to network and catch up with Palo Alto-based alumni. A reception was also held for UCD alumni at the Wayfare Tavern with guests making new connections as well as reconnecting with old friends in the area.

New York

UCD alumni gathered at the American Irish Historical Society in New York in April 2024. The Dean of Business, Professor Anthony Brabazon welcomed guests, and UCD President, Professor Orla Feely shared her vision for UCD, followed by an engaging panel discussion on New York Private Equity, exploring the representation of the Irish within the private equity industry in New York.

UCD Business alumni also gathered in New York in October 2023 for an engaging masterclass in digital transformation ‘Is it Time to Get Rid of the IT Department?’, delivered by the Wall Street Journal – published Professor Joe Peppard, Academic Director of UCD Smurfit Executive Development.

Boston

In November 2023, UCD alumni based in Boston soaked up some historical knowledge as they gathered at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. The networking event drew alumni of all ages and sparked a new interest in connecting among Boston’s UCD community.

Chicago

UCD alumni came together to meet UCD President Professor Orla Feely and network at a reception in The Dawson in Chicago, in November 2023.

SRI LANKA

In December 2023, UCD alumni in Sri Lanka gathered at the Hilton Colombo for the annual Alumni Reception. The event was a wonderful opportunity for members of the Sri Lanka-based UCD alumni community to connect.

LONDON

The UCD alumni London event aligned with the UCD Careers Law student trip in January 2024. Alumni had the opportunity to network with each other and provide valuable insights for the students living in London and working in law. Former Mayor of London and DLA Piper partner Vincent Keaveny CBE hosted the event and UCD Dean of Law, Professor Laurent Pech gave a welcoming address.

SINGAPORE

In April 2024, Singapore-based UCD alumni attended a reception hosted by the Ambassador of Ireland to Singapore, HE Sarah McGrath. The event commenced with a welcome from the Ambassador, followed by remarks and updates from the Dean of Business, Professor Anthony Brabazon, and UCD President, Professor Orla Feely. The speeches were followed by a lively networking reception, providing alumni with an opportunity to mingle.

HONG KONG

UCD President, Professor Orla Feely and Professor Anthony Brabazon, Principal, UCD College of Business welcomed UCD alumni and new graduates from the Class of 2024 programmes in Hong Kong to a reception at the Harbour Grand Kowloon in April 2024.

CHINA

UCD alumni attended receptions in Beijing in March and July. They were joined by UCD alumna HE Ann Derwin, Ambassador of Ireland to China; Professor Aoife Ahern, Principal, UCD College of Engineering and Architecture; Professor Paul Fanning, UCD International Dean for China and VPl Teaching & Learning BDIC, Dr Ailish O’Halloran. The second event included a visit from Deputy President Colin Scott and coincided with conferrings on our Beijing Dublin International College (BDIC) campus.

PARIS

Over 90 UCD alumni, Erasmus students and friends attended a reception held in the Embassy of Ireland in Paris in May 2024. UCD President, Professor Orla Feely spoke about her vision for UCD and Ambassador of Ireland to France HE Niall Burgess welcomed guests to their ‘second home’ in Paris. Chapter Representative Cormac Ryan spoke about his time in UCD and Chapter-led events and activities for alumni to connect with in Paris.
