Former UCD President, Dr Patrick Masterson, shared his memories of founding the postdoctoral programme in 1989 to support early career researchers in the depth of economic recession.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 200 Newman Fellows alumni attended the event and enjoyed an entertaining panel discussion facilitated by Professor Pat Wall, with current and former Fellows and mentors: Professor Glen Doherty, Professor Ursula Fearon, Professor Brigid Laffan and Dr Christine Shan (Kerry Group Newman Fellow in Food Safety). The evening also saw the launch of <em>Exceptional Minds<\/em>, a book commemorating the first 30 years of the Newman Fellowship Programme.<\/p>\n<p>The Newman Fellowship Programme is only made possible through philanthropy.
