In October 2019, leading Irish law firm Matheson and UCD Sutherland School of Law hosted a conference in O\u2019Reilly Hall, UCD, focusing on \u201cCulture and Governance in Financial Services\u201d and the introduction by the Central Bank of Ireland of the Senior Executive Accountability Regime (SEAR). With the keynote address delivered by Derville Rowland, Director General, Financial Conduct, of the Central Bank of Ireland, the conference comprised panel discussions reflecting on the policy issues which gave rise to the need for the SEAR, the approach currently being taken by regulators in other jurisdictions in response to those issues and the learnings for Ireland.<\/p>\n

The panel discussions featured key members of Matheson\u2019s dedicated SEAR team, senior executives from the international financial services industry, as well as leading academics in the fields of law and corporate governance, and provided the over 250 attendees with guidance on what the SEAR is likely to mean in practical terms for boards, senior managers and employees alike.<\/p>\n
