Each year we welcome thousands of our alumni back to campus, for Mentoring events, Reunions, Choral Scholars or Symphony Orchestra performances, Spoken Word events, Alumni Awards and the UCD Festival, or simply to pay a nostalgic visit to relive those great memories of student days.

UCD Dramsoc Reunion Dinner
On Wednesday, 21 March 2018, UCD Dramsoc hosted their Reunion Dinner in Astra Hall. The event saw current members and alumni celebrate UCD Dramsoc’s 91 year history. In addition to extracts from past shows being performed on the night, guests were entertained with speaking notes from Willie White and Catriona Ennis as well as an In Conversation piece with Camille O’Sullivan.
UCD Brussels Alumni Reception 2018
A great evening was had at the Embassy of Ireland, Brussels for the UCD School of Law and UCD Alumni joint annual reception. The event took place on Thursday 22 March. Thanks to H.E. Ambassador Nolan for hosting a very enjoyable event. We look forward to more events in 2018 with our Brussels Chapter!
UCD Women in Leadership 2018
On Thursday, February 8 2018, UCD hosted the third Arthur Cox UCD Women in Leadership Conference. The conference brought over 620 alumni, students and professionals together in O’Reilly Hall, to a day of panel talks and keynote discussions, given by influential alumni and friends of UCD. Keynote addresses were given by Anne Anderson, former US Ambassador, Breege O’Donoghue, Former Board Member of Primark and Mark Fenton of MASF consulting. Professor Imelda Maher, Dean of Law, gave the opening address. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Women in Leadership Conference.
UCD Oireachtas Affinity Group Launch
UCD President, Professor Andrew J Deeks, Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó’Fearghail TD and Senator Joe O’Reilly were delighted to launch our UCD Oireachtas Affinity Group in Leinster House. This event saw Ministers, TD’s, Senators, staff of the Houses of the Oireachtas and Members of the Media celebrate their connection to UCD. The event took place on Tuesday 20 February.
UCD Saudi Arabia Alumni Reception
UCD President, Professor Andrew J Deeks and Ambassador Tony Cotter were delighted to welcome our Saudi Arabia based alumni to join them for an evening reception in the Ambassador’s residence in Riyadh. UCD Boston Alumni Chapter Event – 8th February 2018
We were delighted to welcome over 70 UCD alumni and friends to join us at the first UCD Boston Alumni Chapter event of 2018, in association with the Irish Network Boston. The event took place on 8th February and was held in The UMass Club. The evening was truly enjoyable with a warm and friendly atmosphere, it consisted of a lively panel discussion on ‘Current Trends in Digital Health – How it will change our lives’ followed by lots of networking and reconnecting. The stellar line-up of panellists included Chris Coburn, Chief Innovative Officer & President of Partners HealthCare International, Jim Joyce, CEO and Co-Founder of HealthBeacon; and Sasha Said, Vice President, Leerink Transformation Partners (LTP). The evening’s discussion was moderated by Mary Codd, Associate Professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Prof Michael O’Neill, Associate Dean – Director of UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School ICON Chair of Business Analytics. UCD Career Mentoring Launch, January 2018
Over 70 UCD students from both the College of Social Sciences and Law, and the College of Arts and Humanities were matched with alumni mentors who have a shared interest in their chosen field for the fourth UCD Career Mentoring programme in 2018.
Alumni and students met for the first time at the opening event in The Fitzgerald Debating Chamber in the UCD Student Centre on January 25th. College Principal, Professor Colin Scott, opened the event and welcomed all attendees. We are very grateful to our alumni mentors who have volunteered their time to support UCD students with their professional expertise.
Experienced mentor Niall O’Flynn spoke to the attendees and gave advice to both mentors and mentees on what to expect from the programme. We wish all of our mentors and students the very best of luck with their partnership.
Choral Celebration of Christmas – UCD Choral Scholars
This December UCD Choral Scholars performed their ‘Choral Celebration of Christmas’ to an audience of over 1,000 UCD alumni, friends and supporters over 3 sell-out festive evenings in Newman University Church. Guest conductor Mark Armstrong directed the performances featuring favourites by composers ranging from Britten to Rutter to Lauridsen, in addition to the world premiere of a new work by Colin Mawby, commissioned by the UCD Choral Scholars with support from The Arts Council.
The choir were joined on each evening by Tristan Russcher on piano, Michael Seaver on clarinet and David Agnew on cor anglais and oboe.

Celebrating 50 Years of Anglo-Irish Literature in UCD
The world-renowned Irish playwright and UCD Graduate, Marina Carr enchanted our audience in the Garrett FitzGerald Chamber on Wednesday evening. Marina read from two of her plays, Hecuba and Woman and Scarecrow, and held a fascinating conversation with Professor Margaret Kelleher, Chair of UCD’s Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama programme. The event also paid tribute to the founding role of the late Professor Roger McHugh, inaugural Chair of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama, and celebrated 50 years of the MA programme which he founded. Dr Mary Canning, who was a doctoral student of Professor McHugh, gave the closing remarks.
UCD France Alumni Chapter Launch
UCD Alumni Relations were delighted to launch the France Alumni Chapter on 30th November 2017. The event was held in the Embassy of Ireland, Paris, in the presence of H.E Ms Patricia O’Brien, Ambassador of Ireland to France, along with Professor Michael Brophy, Head of French at UCD, and Avril Donohue, Global Alumni Relations Coordinator at UCD. We were delighted to welcome 140 UCD alumni to the very first event in Paris, and we very much look forward to future engagement with our UCD alumni community in France. A special thanks also to the work of the France Chapter Representatives – Maurice Stack, Cormac Ryan, Ciaran Mac Guill and Desmond Mc Getrick, for their support in organising the event with such an engaged and enthusiastic group of alumni in Paris.
UCD President’s London Visit 2017
UCD President, Professor Andrew J Deeks, welcomed our London-based alumni to a reception and panel discussion in the elegant Drapers’ Hall, London on November 29th 2017. The theme was Cybercrime – Industries on the Frontline. There was a stellar line-up of panellists, most of whom are UCD alumni and all are experts in the field of cyber security. Speakers included Paul Gillen, Managing Director, Head of Security Operations at Barclays, Philipp Amann, Head of Strategy, European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) at Europol, Eric Sheehan, Head of IT Information and Cyber security at Gatwick Airport, Vincent Rezzouk-Hammachi, Head of Data Privacy and Data Management Services at Mazars. The discussion was moderated by Cheryl Baker, Director of UCD Centre for Cybersecurity & Cybercrime Investigation. The event was kindly hosted by Mazars Ireland and special thank you to Mark Kennedy, Managing Partner of Mazars for supporting the UCD alumni community. Thanks also to the work of the chapter contacts, David O’Reilly and Eoin Lyons for their support in organizing the event with such an engaged and enthusiastic group of alumni in London.
UCD President’s Alumni Australia Tour 2017
UCD Alumni Relations were delighted to welcome our Australian based Alumni to the first ever UCD President’s Alumni Australia Tour in October 2017. Throughout the tour, events were held in the cities of Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, with over 300 UCD alumni in attendance across the three events. Over the last 163 years, UCD has grown from strength to strength and today is Ireland’s largest and most globally engaged university. We are working hard towards achieving our vision for 2020 – bringing the best of the world to Ireland and the best of Ireland, including its distinct cultures, to the world by developing our strategic relationships to grow global engagement. Alumni engagement is a key aspect of this strategy, and we are proud to have over 2,500 alumni in Australia, with Alumni Chapters in Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. We look forward to visiting Australia again in 2018!
Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence in Student Activities
UCD Student Services celebrated 25 years of the UCD President’s Award this October 5th through the launch of an impressive memoir publication. Since the Awards inception in 1993, a total of 278 recipients have been honoured with a President’s Award for their contribution to student life on campus. Former recipients and UCD alumni, Gavan Reilly and Sinead Ingoldsby, on the night reflected on the enormous impact and importance of University activities outside of the classroom to their own personal development and career. Many other recipients were captains and chairpersons, social activists and campaigners, administrators and representatives, all of whom continue to be influential, successful and active by making a difference to society, nationally and globally. It is through these inspirational role models that we have established the University’s standing on the world stage.
Golden & Diamond Jubilee Classes of 1967 & 1957, September 2017
UCD Alumni Relations warmly welcomed the Classes of ’67 and ’57 to Belfield in September for a celebration of their Golden & Diamond Jubilees and a reconnection with classmates after 50 and 60 years.
UCD Festival, June 2017
On Saturday June 10 we welcomed over 10,500 people from the local community and UCD alumni, students, and staff to Belfield to celebrate the thinkers, creators, educators, innovators and fun makers for the UCD Festival.
65 high quality multi-disciplinary events took place throughout the day, including talks, interactive exhibits, science displays, creative workshops, live performances, lots of family fun and tours of the campus. Graduates from the milestone classes also celebrated reunions at a Bubbles and Brunch reunion in the morning, and went on to enjoy the Festival.

CNBC’s Aditi Roy interviewed UCD Alumnus, John O’Farrell, who shared valuable insights from his extensive experience within the venture capital business sector and the seven ‘ingredients’ that make Silicon Valley so special. 100 Years of UCD Student Representation, May 2017
The academic year 2016/2017 marked the 100th session of UCD Student Representation. The Students’ Union, through the initiative of its president, Conor Viscardi, arranged a reception which was held in the Kevin Barry room in the NCH in Earlsfort Terrace on Tuesday May 23rd to mark the centenary. Many former SRC presidents and officers from the 50s, 60s and early 70s attended as well as recent SU Presidents, and the executive.
Speeches by Prof Mark Rogers, Registrar and Deputy President, Mr Brian O’Connell (who had been SRC President in 1967 for the 50th anniversary) and Mr Conor Viscardi, SU President 2016/17 were followed by an un-veilingof a plaque by Professor Andrew J Deeks , UCD President to JJ McElligott, the first SRC President who subsequently became the Secretary of the Department of Finance, and the Governor of the Central Bank.
UCD Boston Alumni: “Stories of Success”, April 2017
The UCD Boston Chapter representatives were delighted to welcome over 50 alumni to the stunning offices of AB Bernstein on State Street for an evening of enthusiastic learning and networking.
Vice Consul Aoife Budd of the Consulate General of Ireland kindly opened the evening’s formalities. UCD alumnus Mark Gallagher moderated what was a highly engaging panel discussion with entrepreneurial alumni Aidan Browne, Sinead O’Connor and Jonathan Ruane providing open and honest insights into their own careers since UCD. The networking reception that followed was made possible through the generous support and hospitality of AB Bernstein.
UCD Woodland Walkies, April 2017
UCD alumni and friends came back to campus for a day of doggy fun with their dogs for guided walks, an agility course and pet experts. It was a family fun day with a Vet Q&A, puppy orienteering and a dog show.
UCD Alumni Receptions in India, March 2017
On Saturday March 25th, H.E Brian McElduff hosted a UCD alumni reception at the Irish Embassy in New Delhi the President of UCD, Professor Andrew J. Deeks, welcomed over 100 guests to the event which included a panel discussion on “Ireland and India’s relationship over the decades” with former Indian Ambassador to Ireland Kiran Doshi. The evening also saw the launch the latest book by UCD Professor Kathleen James Chakraborty, UCD School of Art History and Cultural Policy, entitled “India in Art in Ireland”.
On Friday March 31st the President of UCD, Professor Andrew J. Deeks, welcomed alumni and friends to the first UCD Bangalore Alumni gathering. The president was joined on the night by his fellow UCD colleagues; Douglas Proctor and Lorraine Woods (UCD International), Prof. Ravi Thampi (UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering) and Prof. Jeremy Simpson (UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science). Alumna Rebecca Heins was introduced as the newly appointed Bangalore Chapter representative and delivered a talk on her journey from Bangalore to Belfield and back.
