Patrick Carey of Ireland as Deputy Chef de Cabinet Ad Interim

New York City: The Office of General Assembly of the United Nation has issued the following news release:

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Patrick Carey of Ireland as his Deputy Chef de Cabinet ad interim.

The Secretary-General reiterates his deepest gratitude to outgoing Chef de Cabinet, Susana Malcorra of Argentina, for her tireless support, outstanding leadership and admirable dedication. Her commitment, integrity and diligence inspired and shaped the United Nations, leading by example while setting standards at the highest level.

Mr. Carey is presently Director of Office in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General, a function he has exercised since 2012. Mr. Carey previously held a series of progressively responsible positions, including as Deputy Executive Secretary of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, Deputy Director of Mission Support in the United Nations Mission in Sudan.
(UNMIS) and Executive Officer for the Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support. He also served in other peacekeeping missions. Before joining the United Nations, Mr. Carey served 14 years as an officer in the Irish Defence Forces, including two tours of duty with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Born in 1961, Mr. Carey completed a master’s in business studies from University College Dublin and a bachelor’s degree in commerce from University College Galway, Ireland.
